Cell phones have become a social life line for teens, and, in some ways, a relief for parents who have a way to keep in contact with their child 24/7.

Despite their convenience, cell phones can pose a threat to teens' safety – physically, mentally, and emotionally. When placed in the hands of an adolescent without being accompanied with several words of wisdom, cell phones have been the root cause of both physical harm and horrific embarrassment to the child. Parents should consider laying several ground rules about how and when the cell phone should be used.

Driving Safely

The issue of the danger of driving while talking on the cell should not be unfamiliar to adolescents. However, the fact that they have heard it before does not mean that it does not bear repeating. It should be clear that if it is absolutely necessary to use a cell phone while driving, the driver should pull over to a safe parking spot before carrying on a conversation.
